I think the writing team missed the mark when trying to achieve the same quirkiness from the original. The story, for me, felt a little flat, however. Throughout the film, I found myself dazzled with the quality and beauty of the visuals that the animation team laid out. This story heavily centers around the importance of change, even if that means letting go.
While the first film was brimming with quirky moments, the follow up feels a little more mature in its plot and themes. I, as well as many others, am a huge fan of the first film and the short films that followed it. It's not hard to imagine how big this movie will be.
